Aloe vera

“The silent healer”

Aloe vulgaris, Aloe Vera, Aloe socotrina or Aloe arborescens was known since the old ages for her therapeutic virtues. The old Egyptians used aloe for beauty purposes. The Chinese called it “the harmony medicine” and the Amerindians “the silent healer”. The Russians call it “the longevity elixir”. The Greek doctor Dioscoridis and the Latin encyclopedias Plinius the Elder also cherished the therapeutic properties of the plant. In those times, in Europe the aloe juice was extremely expensive. It is said that Alexander the Great tried to conquer some territory exclusively because it was cultivated with Aloe, used by the natives for a healing beverage. Aloe Vera is a plant very much cactus- like and grows in hot climates. In the origin country, South Africa, it is not a small indoor plant, but a tall tree, over 10 meters of height. The Arabs call it “the bitter tree”. All around the globe, Aloe is a medicinal plant.
